Sossusvlei Mountain Lodge
Set at the foot of ancient, black mountains and spanning the northern reaches of NamibRand Nature Reserve the lodge overlooks an expansive grass plain that leads into an undulating sea of red sand dunes. Each of the 10 luxury air-conditioned suites is constructed from natural mountain rock, blending in perfectly with the surrounding environment.
Inside each spacious suite, a magnificent raised bedroom leads down to the sitting room and out onto a private covered patio. The en-suite marble bathroom sports his and her vanity units as well as an inside and outside shower. A snug fireplace for those cold winter nights adds a touch of 'home'. An abundance of space, exquisitely rich fabrics and carefully selected furnishings adorn the main complex.
Inspired by its' breathtaking view it houses an elegant lounge, reference library, cocktail bar, expansive veranda and the dining room, where gracious dinners are served by candelabra. A special feature is the purpose-built star-gazing facility equipped with a high-powered computerised telescope and comprehensive star charts. Recreational facilities include an upstairs viewing deck and a plunge pool.
Experienced resident naturalist guides lead explorations of the area in open 4x4 vehicles, on hiking and quad biking dune trails, on day excursions to nearby Sossusvlei or from the dizzying heights of a hot air balloon. Such ballooning excursions start at Mwisho, situated some 10 km's south of the lodge.
