Kulala Desert Lodge
Hidden on the banks of the Tsauchab River, Kulala offers a splendid view of the Sossusvlei dunes towards the west. In the east, the towering tabletop Tsaris Mountains - turning pink and purple at sunset - provide a back-drop which impressively contrasts with the dunes. This privately owned lodge sleeps 24 guests in a charming African style setting and guests are ensured of personal attention at all times.
From the veranda or swimming pool terrace guests enjoy delicious French cuisine served al fresco while watching the wildlife at the waterhole. The building style of the lodge is unique. The combination of clay, canvas, timber and thatch, not only blends in well with the surrounding landscapes, but gives the main lodge as well as the rooms a character ideally suited for a desert environment.
Guests are accommodated in twin bedded 'kulalas' with comfortable beds, en-suite facilities and a verandah. A private sleeping balcony on the roof, allowing for magnificent views of the night skies, adds another interesting feature. The main lodge comprises of a lounge with fireplace, bar and dining room.
Reflecting the magnificent landscapes in which Kulala * is located, the activities available leave guests with overwhelming impressions of the magnitude and solitude of the desert. These include hot-air ballooning, horse-riding, private tours to Sossusvlei and scenic nature drives on the property, permitting a closer look at the fragile desert ecology.
* In case Kulala is fully booked we can offer you Little Kulala as an alternative. This lodge is from the same owners and has a similar style and price range.
